Lead Customer Data Steward
POSITION PURPOSE:
The Lead Customer Data Steward is accountable for the operational management, quality, governance, and continuous improvement of enterprise customer data assets. This role ensures that customer data remains accurate, consistent, compliant, and fit for business use across markets, functions, and systems. The role owns the core customer data stewardship routines, including metadata management, business glossary maintenance, data quality monitoring, issue triage, and the practical operating rhythms required to keep customer data reliable for commercial execution, advanced analytics, and AI-enabled use cases.
Customer data is a critical strategic asset supporting commercial execution, customer engagement, analytics, AI use cases, reporting, and business decision-making. The role works across business, data, analytics, technology, and local market teams to drive data excellence and enable scalable customer data capabilities globally.
As Consumer Health becomes more data-driven and customer engagement becomes more personalized across channels, this role strengthens the operational backbone for trusted customer data. It ensures that global standards are translated into practical market execution, recurring data quality issues are solved at root cause, and customer data is continuously improved for business value, compliance, and scalable digital activation.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Own global customer data stewardship routines, ensuring customer data is accurate, complete, consistent, timely, compliant, and fit for business use across markets, functions, and systems. Lead day-to-day customer data operations, including data ingestion, creation, maintenance, enrichment, correction, monitoring, controlled retirement, and issue resolution. Establish and manage data quality monitoring, including KPIs, service levels, dashboards, issue logs, root-cause analysis, remediation tracking, and continuous improvement actions. Act as the lead escalation point for customer data issues by assessing business impact, prioritizing defects, coordinating resolution, and preventing recurring problems through sustainable fixes. Define, maintain, and enforce customer data standards, including business definitions, metadata, glossary terms, taxonomies, hierarchies, validation rules, ownership, and master data standards. Own customer metadata and glossary management, ensuring key data elements, definitions, ownership, lineage, quality rules, and approved business terminology are documented and consistently understood. Coordinate the onboarding and integration of new customer data sources and datasets, ensuring validation, testing, governance approval, documentation, and stakeholder adoption. Lead match, merge, deduplication, survivorship, and golden-record processes for customer accounts, contacts, retailers, distributors, pharmacies, healthcare professionals where relevant, and other customer entities. Support the design and continuous improvement of customer data models, customer hierarchies, segmentation frameworks, Customer360, and enterprise customer master data capabilities. Partner with business teams, analytics teams, data product owners, IT, privacy, security, and local market teams to align customer data capabilities with business priorities and priority use cases. Manage stewardship activities across global and local teams, ensuring consistent use of data definitions, business rules, quality standards, and issue-management processes. Manage relationships with internal and external data providers, implementation partners, technology vendors, and managed service teams to ensure reliable, documented, and high-quality customer data delivery. Drive adoption of customer data standards, stewardship routines, governance practices, and responsible data usage across global, regional, and local organizations. Communicate customer data updates, quality issues, governance changes, risks, decisions, and improvement actions clearly to stakeholders and user communities. Enable customer data products, analytics, AI initiatives, personalization, reporting, and data-driven decision-making by ensuring customer data is trusted, explainable, and ready to use.
WHO YOU ARE:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Management, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Business Administration, or a related field. 8+ years of experience in data stewardship, master data management, data quality, business analysis, data governance, or customer data operations. Strong understanding of customer master data concepts, including account hierarchies, customer identifiers, segmentation, consent and preference data, deduplication, match-and-merge, survivorship, and golden records. Experience with CRM and MDM platforms such as Salesforce, SAP MDG, Informatica, Reltio, TIBCO EBX, or comparable tools. Hands-on experience with SQL and data analysis tools; familiarity with Snowflake, cloud data platforms, Python, Tableau, Power BI, or advanced Excel is an advantage. Ability to define business rules, document requirements, conduct impact and gap analysis, and translate business needs into clear data standards and operational workflows. Strong knowledge of data governance and stewardship practices, including data ownership, stewardship routines, metadata management, business glossaries, data quality KPIs, issue triage, lineage, access, privacy, and change control. Experience working in Consumer Health, FMCG, retail, eCommerce, or commercial analytics environments preferred; pharma-only experience should be translated into broader customer and commercial data use cases. AI-curious and automation-minded, with an understanding of how data quality, structure, metadata, and definitions affect analytics, machine learning, and generative AI outcomes. Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across global, regional, and local teams and explain data issues clearly to non-technical audiences. Experience working with external partners, vendors, system integrators, or consulting teams, with the ability to steer deliverables, challenge quality, clarify requirements, and ensure knowledge transfer into internal teams. Structured, detail-oriented, and delivery-focused, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, lead issue resolution, and drive continuous improvement. Fluent English required; additional languages are a plus.
