Staff Engineer - ECAD PCB Design Engineer - Chassis Systems (Server & Storage Platforms)

About Our Group

The Hardware Engineering team develops next-generation enterprise server and storage platforms, including high-density storage servers and JBOD solutions. Working closely with global teams, they drive innovative hardware designs spanning PCB development, system integration, signal integrity, and product lifecycle execution from concept through production.

About The Role - You Will

Import mechanical model information, e.g. DXF format.Produce PCB outlines and placement of components per constraint drawings developed by Mechanical Team, and/or layout concepts by the Electrical team and/or vendor design guidelines.Route signals per layout design guide rules and DFM and DFT (Design for Manufacturability and Testability) rules.Understand design rules of very high speed (PCIe Gen6/7, FC 64/128G, SAS4, Ethernet 200/400G, DDR5-8000) and high current, low voltage noise sensitive DC power design concepts as they apply to a PCB design.Present PCB design reviews.Participate in peer reviews of other designs in the group.Work effectively within a multi-disciplinary design team.Interact with mechanical and electrical engineers in achieving highest quality designs.Interact with Manufacturing, Supply Base Management and PCB / Fab Material vendors.

PCB Architecture & Design

Lead PCB designs through all phases of concept prototype, new product introduction and sustaining. Understand implementation and supporting PCB fab materials, manufacturing DFT and DFM.Design complex multilayer PCBs supporting high-performance compute, storage, networking, and management functions.Have knowledge in schematic reading, capture, architecture definition, component selection, and board-level design activities for server and storage products.Understand robust power distribution networks (PDN) as they pertain to PCB design and high current low voltage DC regulation solutions.Ensure designs meet electrical, thermal, manufacturability, reliability, and cost objectives.

High-Speed Signal Design

Design and develop constraints for high-speed interfaces including:PCI Express (Gen6/7 and beyond)SAS (12G/24G)SATA (6G)Ethernet interfaces (10G/25G/40G/100G/400G)DDR4 and DDR5 memory interfacesHigh-speed backplane and SERDES-based interconnectsPerform design reviews focused on:Controlled impedance implementationDifferential pair routingLength matchingReturn path continuityCrosstalk mitigationVia optimization and stub reductionPower integrity and noise management

Chassis-Level Integration

Collaborate with chassis, mechanical, and thermal teams to ensure successful integration within dense server and storage enclosures.Evaluate board placement, connector strategies, airflow constraints, serviceability requirements, and manufacturability.Support architecture decisions that balance performance, reliability, cost, and mechanical constraints.

Design Reviews & Technical Leadership

Lead cross-functional engineering reviews.Develop and maintain PCB design guidelines, best practices, and reusable design methodologies.Mentor junior engineers and provide technical oversight to outsourced layout resources when applicable.Review external design deliverables to ensure adherence to product and company standards.

Manufacturing Support

Partner with manufacturing, supplier quality, and NPI teams to support prototype builds and production ramp activities.Investigate and resolve manufacturing, assembly, and field reliability issues.Support DFM, DFA, and DFT initiatives.

Your Experience Includes

Extensive experience utilizing Siemens Xpedition tools for the design, layout and routing of complex (up to 24 layers), high speed printed circuit boardsProven experience designing boards for:Enterprise serversStorage systemsNetworking equipmentHigh-performance embedded platformsStrong expertise in:High-speed digital designSignal integrity fundamentalsPower integrity fundamentalsPCB stack-up developmentEMI/EMC mitigationExperience with modern ECAD design platforms such as:Siemens XpeditionCadence AllegroAltium DesignerEquivalent enterprise-level ECAD toolKnowledge of DDR4/DDR5, PCIe, SAS, SATA, SERDES, and Ethernet technologies.Experience interpreting vendor reference designs, compliance requirements, and chipset design guides.Strong understanding of PCB fabrication and assembly processes.Experience with external storage systems, processors, micro controllers, bus interface and memory technologies.Familiarity with BMC, management controllers, and platform management interfaces.Experience supporting SI/PI simulations using industry-standard tools.Knowledge of thermal design considerations for high-density systems.Experience working with ODMs, EMS providers, and external design partners.Understanding of firmware-hardware interactions and platform bring-up activities.Exposure to lifecycle management, sustaining engineering, and field failure analysis.
