Server Engineer – IT Operations & Infrastructure

Purpose Of Role

Support daily operations of server, virtualization (VMware/KVM), storage (HPE SAN), backup and monitoring platforms to ensure optimum availability, performance and security.

Key Responsibilities

Provision VMs (VMware ESXi/vSphere) and deploy new physical and virtual servers (Windows Server and Linux). Perform daily server health checks, patch implementation, preventive maintenance, and storage allocation (HPE SAN, MSA). Monitor backup jobs and validate recovery actions as necessary. Maintain system documentation, update runbooks, and configuration records in ITSM tools. Support monitoring platforms like Zabbix; escalate and collaborate with Level 2/3 support as needed. Handle Tier 1/2 incidents, troubleshoot hardware/software faults, maintain SLA compliance. Coordinate with OEM (HPE) for hardware support and VMware for licensing/upgrades. Support implementation of changes and OS virtualization upgrades.

Required Experience & Skills

3–5 years in server infrastructure support, virtualization (VMware), HPE blade/SAN/storage systems; Windows & Linux administration. Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals, storage concepts (SAN/LUN). Experience with monitoring tools (Zabbix, Nagios) and backup solutions (Veeam, Commvault or similar). Familiarity with patch management, server hardening and vulnerability remediation.

Preferred Certifications & Qualifications

VMware VCP HPE DCAE or Infrastructure Certs Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Red Hat Certified Engineer/Administrator ITIL Foundation
