Sourcing Manager

Position Summary

Identify and develop supplier base for existing and plan for new products for local & overseas divisional requirement. Provide guidance to the SCM/quality team in MSDI.

Shape the strategy for Sourcing and analytics of key commodities across all value streams/products in a cost-effective way that enhance product value to support divisions AIP objectives.

Responsibilities

Supplier Sourcing & Selection

Conduct market and vendor research to identify potential suppliers across required commodities (casting, machining, sub‑assembly, C‑class).Compare and evaluate supplier proposals using total cost of ownership criteria (price, lead time, quality, capacity, risk).Lead supplier selection and onboarding, ensuring alignment with product specifications and commercial objectives.Negotiate pricing, payment terms, Incoterms, and other commercial conditions to secure competitive, sustainable agreements.

Supplier Development & Quality Assurance

Establish and validate manufacturing processes at supplier locations to meet product quality and specification requirements.Conduct supplier capability assessments and drive corrective actions to raise quality to expected standards.Own PPAP and supplier acceptance activities and remain accountable for new‑part stabilization through PPAP + 3 months.Collaborate with suppliers to implement process controls (machining, tooling, heat treatment, grinding, lapping, casting) and continuous improvement initiatives.

Category & Commodity Strategy

Define and execute commodity strategies for key categories in alignment with market trends and divisional AIP/growth objectives.Segment suppliers (strategic / preferred / transactional) and deploy appropriate governance, risk‑mitigation and supplier development approaches.Implement long‑term sourcing roadmaps including supplier consolidation, localization and strategic partnerships.

Cost Optimisation & Value Engineering (VAVE)

Lead value engineering (VAVE) initiatives and product cost analyses to identify opportunities for cost reduction and value enhancement.Analyse material, labour and overhead cost drivers; implement initiatives to reduce total supply chain cost via price, volume aggregation, lead‑time reduction or quality-driven savings.Drive VAVE projects from conception to implementation and monitor adherence to budget and timelines.

Capacity Planning & Supply Continuity

Monitor supplier capacity and utilisation to ensure uninterrupted supply and manage contingency plans for peak demand or disruptions.Work with suppliers and internal planning teams to forecast demand and align capacity, buffer inventories or alternate sources as needed.

Contracting & Commercial Management

Lead contract negotiations and finalization of strategic supply agreements, VMI arrangements, rebates/discounts and periodic price agreements.Manage and optimise key commercial attributes (price, payment terms, MoQs, lead times, penalty terms) to support business needs.

Project & New Product Sourcing

Lead purchasing strategy for new products and customer projects, developing suppliers in parallel with product development.Manage supplier development of new parts through launch and stabilization (responsible for new parts until PPAP + 3 months).

Spend & Supplier Performance Management

Monitor and analyse spend and supplier base performance; create and implement plans to optimise price, lead‑time, service levels and supplier capabilities.Drive supplier performance reviews and corrective actions; escalate chronic issues and implement improvement plans.

Financial Control & Performance

Control and manage budgeted procurement spend; identify and address adverse trends to meet business objectives and priorities.Drive year‑on‑year cost savings and contribute to Deflation Plan / Price Performance metrics.Deliver at least the defined productivity savings target (e.g., 1% productivity savings of total supplier spend) and continually identify further opportunities.

Technical Expertise & Continuous Improvement

Apply deep technical knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, tooling, heat treatment, grinding, lapping, casting) to enable supplier discussions, troubleshooting and capability development.Conduct periodic product and process analyses to identify cost and value improvement opportunities and embed continuous improvement into supplier relationships.

Risk Management & Market Intelligence

Analyze market trends, commodity price drivers and supplier capabilities to anticipate risks and unlock sourcing opportunities that support profitable growth.Recommend hedging, sourcing diversification or alternative material/tech solutions where appropriate.

Qualifications

B.Tech/M.Tech Degree with Supply Chain or Management discipline.8-12 years of experienceSix sigma green belt will be added advantage.
