Software Engineer (Java & AWS)

Position Overview

Autodesk’s Platform team is looking for a Software Engineer (Java & AWS) to join our growing engineering organization. Our team builds cloud-native services and platform capabilities that enable Autodesk products and experiences used by millions of customers worldwide.

In this role, you will design, build, test, deploy, and operate scalable services within Autodesk’s cloud data platform. You will work with modern technologies including Java, Spring Boot, gRPC, AWS, Terraform, and microservices, while collaborating with engineers, architects, and product partners to deliver reliable and secure platform capabilities. You will be based in Pune, India, report to the Manager of Software Development, and work within Autodesk’s flexible hybrid work model.

Responsibilities

Contribute across the complete software development lifecycle, including architecture, design, estimation, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenanceDesign and develop reliable, scalable, and maintainable cloud-native services using Java and Spring BootDesign and implement service-to-service communication using gRPC and RESTful APIsBuild comprehensive automated tests and incorporate quality, security, observability, and operational readiness into the development processCollaborate with product managers, architects, and engineers to translate business and technical requirements into well-designed product capabilitiesDevelop and integrate microservices, RESTful APIs, gRPC services, and event-driven systems within a distributed cloud environmentBuild and maintain cloud infrastructure using AWS services and Infrastructure as Code, including TerraformMonitor, troubleshoot, and support production services, contributing to incident resolution, root-cause analysis, and improvements to system reliabilityParticipate in code and design reviews and contribute to technical discussions and engineering decisionsContinuously improve engineering practices, CI/CD workflows, development processes, and team productivityApply software engineering principles and design patterns to create solutions that are extensible, testable, and maintainableActively use AI-assisted software development practices and tools as part of the engineering workflow, including Spec-Driven Development, code generation, automated code reviews, test generation, debugging, and developer productivity tools, while maintaining high standards for quality, security, and maintainabilityLearn new technologies and share knowledge and engineering best practices across the team

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience3+ years of professional software development experience, with hands-on experience building production-grade applications using JavaStrong proficiency in Java, including a solid understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and software engineering fundamentalsHands-on experience with Spring and Spring Boot for developing production-grade servicesExperience designing and developing microservices using gRPC and RESTful APIsExperience with Protocol Buffers (Protobuf) and service contract designExperience with AWS and cloud services such as SQS, S3, DynamoDB, IAM, and Lambda, or comparable servicesExperience using Terraform or similar Infrastructure as Code technologiesUnderstanding of distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and scalable cloud application architecturesExperience applying software design patterns, clean-code principles, and engineering best practicesExperience with automated unit, integration, and service-level testingExperience using Git and working with modern CI/CD pipelinesHands-on experience using AI-assisted coding and software development tools as part of day-to-day engineering workflows, including code generation, code understanding, testing, debugging, or code reviewAbility to effectively use AI-assisted development while applying sound engineering judgment to validate generated code for correctness, security, performance, maintainability, and test coverageStrong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skillsGood communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional engineering environment

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Guice, including dependency injection and building modular Java applicationsExperience building, deploying, monitoring, and operating large-scale SaaS applicationsExperience with Apache Flink or other stream-processing technologiesExperience with event-driven architectures and asynchronous messaging systemsExperience designing and operating high-throughput, low-latency gRPC services in distributed environmentsFamiliarity with observability practices, including application metrics, logging, tracing, alerting, and production troubleshootingExperience with performance and load-testing tools such as BlazeMeter or similar technologiesFamiliarity with shell scripting and engineering automationExperience working across multiple Git repositories and shared platform servicesFamiliarity with secure cloud-development practices, IAM, and designing highly available and resilient services
