We’re Hiring | Marine Loss Control & Risk Engineering Specialist | Mumbai
We are looking for an experienced Marine Loss Control & Risk Engineering Specialist to strengthen our Marine Cargo Risk Management and Loss Prevention function.
The position requires a professional with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in logistics, cargo handling, marine/transit risk management, loss prevention, root-cause
analysis and operational gap assessment.
The role will focus on proactively identifying why cargo losses occur and how recurrence can be prevented.
The specialist will undertake field-level risk assessments and detailed root-cause/gap analysis covering exposures such as wet damage, improper handling, shocks & jolts, inadequate packaging, stowage and stacking failures, compression/load stresses, lashing and securing deficiencies, contamination, cargo characteristics and other logistics-related causes of loss.
A critical part of the role will involve analysing Claims MIS, historical loss trends, survey reports and operational data to identify recurring patterns and loss drivers, correlate field observations with claims experience, and translate the findings into practical and measurable Loss Prevention / Loss Control recommendations for insured clients.
The specialist will also support Marine Underwriting by assessing complex or critical cargo exposures prior to risk acceptance, identifying potential loss scenarios and providing technically supported risk insights, warranties, safeguards and loss-control recommendations to assist underwriting decisions.
Preferred Professional Background: Master Mariner / Chief Officer / Second Engineer; or an experienced Engineer / Packaging Specialist with strong practical knowledge of logistics and cargo handling. Candidates from relevant marine, engineering, cargo risk or industrial packaging backgrounds may also be considered where they can demonstrate expertise in packaging design and adequacy, compression/load stresses, palletisation, stacking, stowage planning, lashing, securing and cargo-handling risk assessment.
The successful candidate should demonstrate strong analytical and investigative capability, field presence, technical judgment and problem-solving skills, with the ability to convert complex observations and loss data into clear gap analyses and actionable recommendations.
The position requires willingness to travel extensively for field risk inspections and client engagements, along with excellent technical report-writing and presentation skills. Strong proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint is essential for claims analytics, trend analysis and management/client presentations.
