The Microsoft 365 Solutions Engineer is responsible for the design, configuration, administration, support, and continuous improvement of the Microsoft 365 collaboration and productivity ecosystem. This role will support all core M365 services, including Exchange Online, Microsoft Entra ID, External Entra ID, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office applications, Microsoft 365 Groups, and related collaboration platforms.
This position will serve as a technical engineer and escalation resource for Microsoft 365 services, ensuring the environment is secure, reliable, scalable, and aligned with business needs. The role will partner closely with global infrastructure, cybersecurity, service desk, application, and business teams to deliver a modern digital workplace experience.
Key Responsibilities
Microsoft 365 Administration & Engineering
Design, implement, and support Microsoft 365 services across a global enterprise.
Administer Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Microsoft Entra ID.
Manage Microsoft 365 tenant configuration, licensing, governance, and service health.
Develop and maintain Microsoft 365 architecture standards and operational procedures.
Lead M365 migrations, upgrades, and modernization initiatives.
Identity & Access Management
Manage Entra ID (Azure AD), hybrid identity, and Active Directory integrations.
Configure and maintain Single Sign-On (SSO), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Conditional Access, and identity governance solutions.
Troubleshoot identity synchronization and authentication issues.
Support certificate-based authentication, password less technologies, and smart card initiatives.
Security & Compliance
Implement Microsoft security technologies including Defender, Purview, and Conditional Access.
Support data protection, information governance, retention policies, and compliance initiatives.
Monitor security alerts and collaborate with cybersecurity teams on threat mitigation.
Participate in security assessments, audits, and remediation activities.
Collaboration & Productivity Solutions
Support Microsoft Teams collaboration, calling, conferencing, and Teams Rooms environments.
Configure and manage SharePoint Online sites and governance standards.
Enable business productivity through Power Automate, Power Apps, Forms, and Copilot technologies.
Drive user adoption and best practices for Microsoft 365 services.
Automation & Optimization
Develop automation solutions using PowerShell and Microsoft Graph.
Automate user provisioning, licensing, compliance reporting, and administrative tasks.
Monitor system performance and proactively improve service reliability.
Create dashboards, reports, and operational metrics related to M365 service delivery.
Operational Support
Serve as a Level 3 escalation resource for complex Microsoft 365 incidents.
Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
Work closely with service desk, infrastructure, and application teams to resolve issues.
Maintain documentation, knowledge articles, and architectural diagrams.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
5+ years of experience administering Microsoft 365 in an enterprise environment.
Experience supporting:
Exchange Online
Microsoft Teams
SharePoint Online
OneDrive for Business
Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)
Strong PowerShell scripting and automation skills.
Experience with identity management, MFA, Conditional Access, and SSO technologies.
Knowledge of Microsoft security and compliance capabilities.
Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and project management skills.
Preferred
Experience with Microsoft Copilot and AI-powered productivity solutions.
Experience with Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Purview.
Experience in hybrid cloud environments.
Familiarity with Teams Rooms and modern workplace technologies.
Experience supporting global organizations.
