We are seeking a senior attorney to provide sound and practical legal advice and counsel to the India management team, including the business units and corporate functions, to facilitate State Street’s business goals and objectives, and manage legal risk. Position to be based in Bangalore, India.

What You Will Be Responsible For

As Head of Legal for India, you will

Serve as the day-to-day legal advisor to the State Street India Country Head and CEO, and India management team for all India-related activitiesIn conjunction with other members of the global Legal department, (i) manage all aspects of STT India legal requirements and issues, including interfacing with local authorities in situations of unannounced onsite actions, and (ii) manage legal matters before any court, tribunal or government authority in IndiaAdvise on local employment-related legal matters, including employee claims, relevant policies and practices and inclusion/diversity mattersAdvise on privacy requirements with respect to State Street, client, employee and other dataMaintain inter-company service agreementsProvide legal advice and guidance regarding compliance with applicable requirements under Indian law, including in connection with efforts by business units and corporate functions to streamline processes and proceduresSupport drafting, review and negotiation of agreements, contracts, MOUs and other documents with respect to the Company’s engagement with governmental agencies and transactionsLiaise with government authorities and departments and external advisors such tax advisors and auditors; serve as primary contact for liaising with external counselIn partnership with Corporate Compliance, (i) monitor regulatory developments and liaise with external counsel and industry bodies to determine their potential impact on the Company and (ii) provide support and advice to conduct periodic reviews of all local legal requirementsEstablish and drive implementation of appropriate corporate governance practices, including counselling local management and the company secretary on best corporate governance practices

Education & Preferred Qualifications

Qualified lawyer with post qualification experience of at least 15 years in a top-tier law firm or large international business organizationEducational qualification – LLB (an additional LLM would be an advantage)Broad general experience advising across various functions such as employment/labor laws, general corporate law and telecom/technology lawsDemonstrated hands-on experience in employment claims and counseling on employment practices across multiple locations, contract drafting and inter-company contract managementExcellent knowledge of applicable laws and governance practices, including in-depth understanding of the regulatory regime in relation to the ITeS industry in India and financial services globally

Additional Requirements

Work from Bangalore office at least 3-4 days per week.Regional travel within India may be required.
