Job Purpose: This role is responsible for leading and managing the sustainability strategy for Adani Power Limited (APL). This role ensures compliance with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards and oversee sustainability disclosures, CSR activities, and stakeholder engagement.

Job Responsibilities

BU Head Environment & Forest

Sustainability Reporting And Strategic Management

Lead the preparation and submission of BRSR in compliance with SEBI and GRI standards.

Conduct data assurance processes and prepare data for external verification agencies.

Provide quarterly sustainability updates to senior management and integrate sustainability goals into corporate governance.

Release quarterly Environmental and Social Assessment (ESA) reports aligned with ESG frameworks.

Compliance Monitoring And Data Management

Oversee data collection, validation, and consolidation using tools like Gensuite, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

Submit fly ash generation/utilization, water consumption, and other regulatory reports to ministries and the CEA.

Track compliance indices for air, water quality, and provide monthly updates to the CEO.

Coordinate data submission across business units and validate data uploaded to regulatory platforms.

Environmental Compliance And Regulatory Affairs

Ensure compliance with forest clearance, Consent to Establish, and hazardous waste management regulations.

Oversee submission of environmental statements, audits, and ash-related compliance reports.

Coordinate regulatory approvals and permits for environmental compliance during project and operational phases.

Monitor and ensure adherence to pollution control board regulations and ministry mandates.

Project Sites Compliance And Management

Support Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), data collection, and clearance processes for projects.

Facilitate public hearings and incorporate feedback into project development.

Ensure compliance with pollution control board approvals and resource availability for new projects.

Monitor regulatory adherence and coordinate consents and clearances during construction phases.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Management

Monitor compliance with CSR expenditure mandates and track budget utilization.

Conduct outcome assessments for major CSR programs, publishing findings and recommendations.

Provide monthly CSR updates to senior management and present activity summaries at board meetings.

Stakeholder Engagement

Collaborate with internal teams to collect sustainability data and validate reporting accuracy.

Engage with external stakeholders, including assurance agencies and regulatory bodies, for compliance.

Monitor regulatory updates and communicate changes to senior management for timely action.

Maintain relationships with ESG experts and incorporate best practices into sustainability strategies.

Policy Development And External Recognition

Conduct gap assessments on sustainability policies, addressing areas for improvement.

Develop and implement new sustainability protocols to enhance compliance with ESG standards.

Lead participation in external sustainability ratings and forums, improving organizational visibility and performance.

Digitisation And Automation

Lead and execute comprehensive digitization strategies to optimise operational efficiency.

Innovate automation solutions to support overall organisational goals / strategy.

Implement process and system improvements, adopting newer technologies and innovative ideas.

People And Team Engagement

Participate in the recruitment process to attract and retain skilled personnel for the team.

Enhance employee engagement across the team to sustain a positive workplace culture.

Lead, inspire and mentor the team to foster a high-performance culture and ensure cross skilling through job rotation, technical and behavioural trainings.

Ensure proper succession planning in the team.

Foster a conducive environment for high employee retention by ensuring team satisfaction and professional development.

Responsibilities

Environmental Compliance & Regulatory Management

Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental laws, regulations, and statutory requirements issued by MoEF & CC, CPCB, SPCB, and other regulatory authorities.Monitor adherence to Consent to Operate (CTO), Consent to Establish (CTE), Environmental Clearance (EC), and other statutory conditions.Coordinate with regulatory agencies for inspections, audits, approvals, and compliance submissions.Track changes in environmental legislation and ensure timely implementation within the plant.

Environmental Monitoring & Reporting

Oversee ambient air quality, stack emission, water quality, noise monitoring, and other environmental monitoring activities.Ensure accurate submission of environmental compliance reports to statutory authorities.Monitor performance of Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) and Continuous Effluent Quality Monitoring Systems (CEQMS).Analyze environmental performance indicators and recommend corrective measures.

Waste & Resource Management

Lead fly ash utilization initiatives and ensure compliance with Fly Ash Notification requirements.Oversee hazardous waste management, solid waste disposal, and utilization processes.Drive water conservation, wastewater treatment, and zero-liquid discharge initiatives wherever applicable.Monitor resource utilization and implement measures for environmental sustainability.

Environmental Management System (EMS)

Establish and maintain ISO 14001 Environmental Management System requirements.Conduct environmental risk assessments and compliance audits.Implement corrective and preventive actions based on audit observations.Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to environmental performance.

Sustainability & ESG Initiatives

Support implementation of ESG and sustainability goals across the plant.Promote initiatives for reducing emissions, carbon footprint, water consumption, and waste generation.Develop and execute environmental improvement projects aligned with organizational sustainability objectives.

Stakeholder Management

Liaise with government authorities, regulatory bodies, consultants, and external agencies on environmental matters.Coordinate with internal departments including Operations, O&M, Ash Management, Safety, and CSR teams.Support management during environmental audits, reviews, and compliance presentations.

Team Leadership

Lead and mentor the environment team.Build environmental awareness across plant personnel through training and engagement programs.Ensure competency development and succession planning within the function.

Qualifications

Educational Qualification:

MBA in Sustainability and Environment/ Postgraduate degree in Sustainability or related field.

Work Experience (Range Of Years)

A minimum of 15 years of experience in sustainability management.

Preferred Industry

Experience in the Power and Utilities sector with knowledge of SEBI and GRI standards, along with a strong understanding of sustainability frameworks, regulations, and industry best practices.
