The Identity, Access Management & Protection (IAMP) organization is responsible for building and operating foundational platforms that secure, govern, and protect identities across Microsoft’s enterprise ecosystem.
Our mission is to safeguard Microsoft’s digital estate by delivering secure, scalable, and resilient solutions for identity lifecycle management, authentication, authorization, provisioning, access governance, privileged access management, and identity protection. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who is passionate about building highly scalable cloud services and security solutions that protect and defend enterprise identities. In this role, you will partner with engineers, architects, security experts, and product leaders to design, build, and operate next-generation identity platforms that are critical to Microsoft’s security posture.

Responsibilities
Design and Build Identity Security Platforms
Design, develop, and maintain large-scale Identity and Access Management services and platforms.Build secure solutions supporting identity lifecycle management, provisioning, authentication, authorization, access governance, privileged access workflows, and identity protection capabilities.Develop highly scalable cloud services, APIs, and distributed systems that support mission-critical enterprise scenarios.Drive architecture discussions and contribute to long-term platform strategy.Leverage modern engineering practices, automation, and AI-powered development tools to improve velocity, quality, and developer productivity.
Drive End-to-End Engineering Delivery
Own design, development, testing, deployment, and operational readiness of complex engineering initiatives.Translate business, security, and customer requirements into scalable technical solutions.Drive execution across multiple workstreams, dependencies, and stakeholder groups.Ensure engineering excellence through code reviews, testing strategies, automation, and continuous improvement.Deliver projects with a strong focus on quality, security, reliability, and customer impact.
Service Ownership and Operational Excellence
Act as an owner of highly available production services running at global scale.Drive service reliability, performance, scalability, and operational health.Define and improve observability, telemetry, monitoring, and alerting capabilities.Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and mitigation efforts.Improve service quality through automation, operational best practices, and continuous service improvement.Partner with engineering and operational stakeholders to achieve service health and engineering excellence objectives.
Security and Compliance
Apply security-by-design principles throughout the software development lifecycle.Partner with security, privacy, governance, and compliance teams to meet Microsoft requirements and industry standards.Design systems that securely manage sensitive identity and access data.Identify and mitigate architectural, operational, and security risks.Drive secure coding, threat modelling, risk assessment, and compliance readiness activities.
Collaboration and Technical Leadership
Collaborate effectively with engineers, architects, product managers, security specialists, and operations teams across Microsoft.Drive alignment across organisations to achieve engineering and business objectives.Influence technical decisions through data-driven analysis and strong engineering judgement.Mentor engineers and contribute to an inclusive, high-performing engineering culture.Communicate technical strategies, risks, trade-offs, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's/master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related technical discipline with 8+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C#, Java, Python, or Go.Experience designing and building cloud-scale distributed systems and services.Experience with microservices architectures, REST APIs, and cloud-native application development.Experience with Microsoft Azure or other cloud platforms.Strong software design, debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimisation skills.Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and operational excellence.Ability to independently drive complex technical initiatives from design through production.Experience leveraging AI-assisted engineering tools and automation technologies to improve engineering outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience building Identity and Access Management (IAM), Identity Governance, Authentication, Authorization, Access Governance, Provisioning, or Identity Protection solutions.Experience with enterprise security, Zero Trust, or access governance technologies.Knowledge of cloud security, privileged access management, identity lifecycle management, and modern identity protection strategies.Experience operating mission-critical services at scale.Experience driving platform modernisation and security transformation initiatives.
