Responsibilities:
Lead, manage and grow a team of customer-focused software engineers in delivering and maintaining features that impact millions of Uber riders.
Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of engineers on your team, and continuously improve software engineering practices.
Set up the right processes to ensure the team follows best engineering practices.
Own the craftsmanship, reliability, and scalability of your solutions.
Bring a passion to stay on top of industry trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, and participate in internal and external technical communities.
Encourage innovation, implementation of groundbreaking technologies, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, and self-organisation.
Collaborate with and across teams to design, build, and ship great experiences for our customers.
Prioritise stories, features and bugs to deliver the most value to users quickly.
Requirements:
Minimum 8 years of proven experience in building large-scale customer-facing products.
2+ years of experience managing engineering teams.
Strong understanding of technical architecture, system design, and problem-solving acuity for sophisticated technical challenges.
Proven experience in directly managing high-performing engineering teams, leveraging tech leads and senior engineers effectively with clear project plans and timelines.
Passionate about helping teams grow by inspiring and mentoring engineers.
Experience working cross-functionally with Product Management, Data Science, and Business partners.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
A passion for crafting user-facing products and experiences.
Significant experience in designing and operating critical high-scale systems.
A high bar across the board - for your own contributions, for the people you work with, and for the products you work on.
Deep understanding of full-stack software development with experience leading both backend and mobile engineers.
Ability to drive multi-functional partner consensus across multiple Engineering organisations, etc.
Strong data-driven prioritisation skills and unafraid to say no to any level of authority when things don't look right.
