Role SummaryWe are looking for a Lead DevOps Engineer with strong leadership skills who can take ownership of DevOps responsibilities and drive a service-oriented architecture mindset across the team. You will design, build, and operate a container-based delivery platform (artifacts shipped as containers) and maintain reliable development and runtime environments across both virtualized (e.g., Azure VMware Solution) and physical server landscapes. You will champion engineering quality (clean code, testing, automated analysis), operational excellence (troubleshooting, observability), and security compliance (CIS hardening, CVE reporting).
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical leadership & collaborationLead by example in engineering practices, mentoring team members and driving pragmatic standards.Collaborate with developers, platform/infrastructure, and security stakeholders to deliver efficient, reliable solutions in a small team environment.DevOps & CI/CD (container-centric)Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines where deliverables are container images, including versioning, promotion strategies, and traceability.Automate build, test, security checks, and deployment workflows; ensure repeatable environment provisioning.Integrate artifact/image registries, policy enforcement, and automated reporting.Containerization & orchestrationDesign and maintain container build patterns (base images, hardening, minimal images, SBOM where applicable).Operate and support container orchestration platforms, including Kubernetes, while also handling container runtime aspects beyond orchestration.Service-oriented architecture enablementSupport teams in designing, deploying, and operating service-oriented/microservice-style systems (interfaces, contracts, runtime concerns).Enable platform capabilities for service reliability (health checks, rolling updates, scaling, dependency management).Infrastructure & OS platform engineering (Physical, Virtual, Managed)Provide and maintain tailored operating system baselines for:RHEL and Windows, Virtual environments (e.g., Azure, VMware Solution) and physical serversAutomate provisioning, configuration, patching, and lifecycle management using Ansible and Terraform (for cloud infrastructure).Quality engineering & reliabilityDrive code quality practices: Clean Code, code reviews, static analysis, linting, formatting, and dependency hygiene.Ensure automated testing strategy coverage (integration/system), pipeline gating, and reproducible environments.Own troubleshooting across the stack (pipelines, containers, OS, network, runtime issues) and improve operability via metrics/logging/tracing.Security & compliance proofImplement and document security controls, including CIS hardening for OS and container images.Provide CVE reporting, vulnerability remediation workflows, and evidence suitable for audits (e.g., baselines, reports, exceptions).
Required Skills & Experience7-11 years of Proven experience as a Senior software engineer with demonstrated technical leadership (ownership, mentoring, decision-making).Strong hands-on experience with containerization (Docker/OCI), image build optimization, and secure image practices.Solid experience with CI/CD design and operations (pipelines, gating, promotions, automation).Practical expertise with Kubernetes and container operations concepts (deployments, config, secrets, networking basics).Strong Python skills for automation/tools and Ansible for configuration management and OS provisioning.Experience administering and hardening RHEL and Windows (golden images/baselines, patching, configuration).Ability to work effectively in a small, efficiency-focused team with end-to-end responsibility.
Nice-to-HaveExperience with Azure and/or Azure VMware Solution operations and integration patterns.Experience generating/maintaining SBOMs, signing images, and supply chain security (e.g., provenance/attestation).Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code beyond Ansible (e.g., Terraform) and secrets management solutions.Experience with Rancher tools such as RKE2, and K3s for Kubernetes management and orchestration.Experience with Grafana and Prometheus for observability, monitoring, and alerting.
