Full job description
Why HSBC
HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world. Guided by our purpose of opening up a world of opportunity, our ambition is to become the world’s most trusted bank globally, putting customers at the heart of everything we do.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Platform Architect, focusing on Infrastructure area to shape, govern, and drive the infrastructure architecture for our AI Platform across multi-cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure, Alibaba Cloud) and on‑prem environments. This role sets the infrastructure direction for onboarding new platform capabilities, ensuring alignment to HSBC enterprise architecture, security, and operational standards, and providing clear technical leadership to infrastructure engineering teams to execute.
You’ll act as a trusted infrastructure consultant to engineering, product, and control functions—translating AI platform needs into pragmatic, supportable infrastructure designs that are secure, scalable, resilient, and compliant.
What You'll Be Doing
'1. Define and govern infrastructure architecture for the AI Platform: reference architectures, standards, guardrails, patterns and roadmaps across cloud and also on‑prem environments.
Provide technical direction and design authority for infrastructure engineering teams, including solution reviews, design approvals, and delivery oversight. Lead vendor/product evaluation and adoption (e.g. GPU platforms, Kubernetes distributions, storage and networking solutions, observability stacks), ensuring fit with HSBC infrastructure requirements, support models, and lifecycle management. Partner closely with HSBC platform and infrastructure team on on‑prem platform development, integration with existing data center capabilities, and operational readiness. Design and guide implementation of GPU infrastructure for AI/ML workloads (capacity planning, scheduling, tenancy/isolation, performance, reliability, cost controls). Embed security, compliance, and operational controls by design, working with Cyber Security, Data, Model Risk Management (MRM), and other stakeholders (e.g., identity, encryption, logging, vulnerability management, auditability). Ensure production-grade non-functionals: availability, disaster recovery, monitoring/alerting, SLOs, incident readiness, and automation (IaC, CI/CD enablement where relevant).
What We're Looking For
'1. Proven infrastructure architecture leadership for large-scale platforms, including defining reference architectures, standards, guardrails, and roadmaps across cloud and on‑prem.
Proven ability to produce clear, practical infrastructure designs that translate business and technical requirements into secure, scalable, reusable and maintainable platform solutions. Hands-on experience building and delivering platform capabilities across both cloud and on-premises environments, with a strong understanding of production engineering and operational considerations. Good knowledge of one or more major cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, Azure, or Alibaba Cloud, including core services, networking, identity, and security principles. Experience with modern platform engineering practices, including APIs, containerisation, Kubernetes, CI/CD, automation, and observability. Familiarity with infrastructure as code, policy as code, and reusable platform patterns. Experience evaluating and adopting vendor products/services (e.g., Kubernetes distributions, GPU solutions, observability tooling) and aligning them to enterprise support, lifecycle, and operational models. Strong stakeholder management skills: able to build trusted relationships with engineering, product, and control functions; translate complex requirements into pragmatic infrastructure designs.
What additional skills will be good to have?
Good understanding of Agent, skill and MCP processing patterns, including deployment architecture, runtime operations, performance, and reliability considerations Familiarity with FinOps / cost optimisation approaches for platform infrastructure, especially for GPU and high-throughput data workloads Knowledge of service management and reliability practices (problem management, root-cause analysis, continuous service improvement, post-incident actions aligned to NFRs/SLOs). Knowledge of GPU ecosystem (e.g., scheduling strategies, partitioning, performance tuning, capacity management, and cost governance for accelerated compute). Experience defining platform architecture principles, standards, and target-state roadmaps to guide consistent design and delivery
