About Urban CompanyUrban Company is a tech-enabled home services marketplace. We promise our customers a high quality, standardized and reliable service experience. To fulfill this promise, we work closely with our hand-picked service partners, enabling them with technology, training, products, tools, financing, insurance, and brand, helping them succeed and deliver on this promise.
About the Role & TeamPeople Excellence runs the operating backbone of the People Success function. This role runs the operations side of it: the processes, people and vendors that deliver payroll, compliance, benefits and the employee lifecycle day in and day out.You will work through your team and vendors, setting the standards, spotting risk early, and lifting the quality of how each process runs. Accuracy is non-negotiable - people get paid correctly, filings go in on time, and audits close without surprises. Alongside running it, you will build the process and automation that make the work less manual over time. What you'll do:Employee lifecycle. Own every stage: BGV and onboarding, confirmations, leave, movement and transfer, promotion, rehire, offboarding and exit formalities, along with the letters, contracts and personnel records behind them. That includes employee queries and service delivery: response times, escalation paths, and fixing the root cause of whatever keeps coming back. HRMS administration and data hygiene sit here too, and a full revamp of onboarding is an early priority.Employee experience. Design the moments that matter across the journey, from a joiner's first week to an exit that ends well, and improve them on evidence rather than instinct.HR data and reporting. Own the recurring reports and ad hoc data requests from leadership, Finance, vendors and auditors, and make sure the numbers hold up.Payroll. Make sure monthly processing, full and final settlements, reconciliations and Finance reporting land accurately and on time, across India and international entities.Compliance. Hold the function's statutory and labour compliance, with a dedicated compliance team member reporting in.Benefits and ESOP. Insurance, car lease, and the monthly ESOP exercise.Operating rhythm. Set the SOPs, SLAs and review cadence, and build the dashboards that surface a problem before it becomes an escalation.Audits. Programme manage internal and external audits: hold the plan, track closure, and keep area POCs on time with auditors.Projects. Lead the charter's key projects, starting with the payroll vendor implementation and the ESOP exercise.Automation. Find what can be automated across lifecycle, payroll and compliance, and deliver it with internal teams and vendors.Team, vendors and stakeholders. Manage and develop the people running these processes, own vendor commercials, SLAs and delivery across payroll, compliance and benefits, and be the point of contact for this charter across Finance, Legal, Tech and the People Success partners. What we'll need:5-8 years of experience in HR operations with exposure to payroll and complianceWorking knowledge of Indian statutory and labour compliance: PF, ESIC, PT, LWF, Shops & Establishments, CLRAExperience managing a small team, with evidence of developing people rather than only allocating workHands on with Microsoft Excel and Google suite (high Excel proficiency would be a plus)Strong attention to detail, with the judgement to know which errors are materialSuper organized yet agile to adapt to UC's way of workingFolks you will work with:We understand that the people you work with and learn from is the single most important determinant of how much you enjoy working at a place.
