Job Description
Role Overview
The Engineering Geologist will direct and oversee all geological and geotechnical field investigations, desktop assessments, and regulatory approvals for ongoing DPR projects across the PSP portfolio. The role demands deep technical expertise in subsurface characterization, geotechnical risk assessment, and coordinating site investigations in alignment with FID timelines. The incumbent will also provide expert guidance on geological risk mitigation for tunnels, caverns, and underground structures.
Key Sector Exposure – Hydro & Pumped Storage
Field geological mapping and rock mass classification for dam sites, tunnel alignments, and powerhouse excavations.Core logging, geotechnical borehole investigation supervision, and RQD assessments.Geological data interpretation for tunnels, caverns, underground powerhouses, and deep-seated structures.Subsurface investigation management including seismic surveys, geophysical investigations, and in-situ testing.Coordination with GSI, CSMRS, and other geological survey agencies for regulatory approvals.Laboratory testing coordination — rock strength, permeability, triaxial, and point load index tests.Preparation of geological maps, cross-sections, field reports, and DPR geotechnical chapters.
Key Responsibilities
Direct and oversee all geological and geotechnical field investigations including core drilling, test pitting, and in-situ testing.Conduct desktop geological assessments and prepare technical reports and geological chapters for DPR submissions.Coordinate and manage regulatory approvals related to geological investigations (GSI, CSMRS).Ensure alignment of all geological studies with FID timelines and technical project requirements.Provide expert guidance on subsurface conditions, foundation recommendations, and geotechnical risk mitigation.Review and interpret geological data including borehole logs, seismic surveys, and geophysical investigations.Prepare geological maps, cross-sections, and 3D subsurface models for underground structures.Track ground behaviour and monitor instrumentation data during tunnel and cavern excavation phases.Manage and maintain geological databases, investigation records, and GIS-based subsurface models.Mentor and guide junior geologists in field investigations and technical report preparation.Liaise with CSMRS, GSI, and allied agencies; manage drilling program coordination.
Stakeholder & Consultant Management
Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and project teams for geological investigations and data management.Provide timely geological inputs to civil design, geotechnical, and construction teams for informed decision-making.Support interaction with CSMRS, GSI, and regulatory bodies on site investigation approvals.Represent the geology function in DPR reviews and technical stakeholder meetings.
