Job Description

Role Overview

The Lead Geotechnical Engineer will provide specialized expertise in subsurface investigation, geological risk assessment, and geotechnical design for Pumped Storage Projects. The role focuses on deep-seated and pit-type powerhouse design, underground structure execution, slope stability analysis, and risk mitigation for complex subsurface conditions — all critical to the technical integrity and schedule performance of PSP projects.

Key Sector Exposure – Hydro & Pumped Storage

Design and execution of deep-seated and pit-type powerhouses in hydroelectric and PSP projects.Geological and geotechnical investigations for large hydro or PSP infrastructure (>200 MW / >500 MW).Slope stability analysis for dam abutments, powerhouse excavations, and access roads.Underground works including tunnel excavation, cavern design, and rock support design.Subsurface risk assessment and mitigation for complex geological conditions.Review of contractor geotechnical submittals, instrumentation plans, and monitoring data.Support for DPR geotechnical chapters, geological risk registers, and site investigation reports.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and supervise geological and geotechnical investigations for pumped storage projects.Provide geotechnical inputs for powerhouse design including deep-seated and pit-type configurations.Perform and review slope stability analyses for powerhouse excavations, dam abutments, and project site areas.Develop rock mass characterization and classification for underground structures including tunnels and caverns.Provide expert technical guidance on underground excavation methodologies, tunnel support design, and cavern construction.Review drill-and-blast plans, shotcrete design, and rock bolt patterns for compliance with geotechnical conditions.Monitor and interpret geotechnical instrumentation data including convergence, piezometers, and extensometers.Develop and maintain geotechnical risk registers identifying key subsurface risks and mitigation strategies.Provide geotechnical inputs for powerhouse layout optimization, foundation design, and underground structure alignment.Support value engineering exercises to optimize foundation and underground structure designs.Coordinate with civil design team to ensure geotechnical assumptions are properly embedded in structural designs.

Stakeholder & Consultant Management

Act as the primary geotechnical interface between internal engineering teams, project management, and external stakeholders.Review, validate, and provide direction on consultant deliverables including site investigation reports, geotechnical models, and design recommendations.Drive regular technical review meetings with consultants, EPC contractors, and project stakeholders to track progress and resolve challenges.Coordinate with the Engineering Geologist and field investigation teams on data interpretation and investigation management.
