Senior Software Engineer

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer with 7+ years of software development experience, strong expertise in POS and payment systems, and hands-on experience developing secure, reliable, and scalable payment applications.

The ideal candidate will have a strong combination of C/C++ payment/POS development and Java/Kotlin-based Android application development, with a solid understanding of ISO 8583, Terminal Management Systems (TMS), payment transaction processing, the Android SDK, and modern Android architecture.

The candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, integrating, debugging, and maintaining POS/payment solutions while collaborating closely with product, QA, hardware, and backend teams.

We are looking for a hands-on Senior Software Engineer who can work across the complete POS software stack — from payment transaction processing and ISO 8583 messaging to Android applications, APIs, device integration, and debugging.

The successful candidate should be comfortable taking ownership of complex technical problems, driving solutions independently, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performance POS payment solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain POS and payment applications for Android-based payment terminals. Develop and maintain payment-related components using Android, C, and C++. Implement and integrate ISO 8583 message formats and transaction flows. Work with Terminal Management Systems (TMS) for terminal configuration, application deployment, updates, and management. Develop Android applications using Java and Kotlin. Design robust and maintainable Android applications using MVVM and Repository architecture. Implement asynchronous operations using Kotlin Coroutines and WorkManager. Develop local data persistence using SQLite. Integrate backend services using Retrofit, Volley, and JSON. Work with Android components including ViewModel, LiveData, Navigation Component, and Jetpack Compose. Integrate and maintain third-party libraries and SDKs such as Firebase, Glide, and Picasso. Develop responsive and user-friendly POS interfaces following Material Design and UI/UX best practices. Integrate payment SDKs, device SDKs, and hardware-related APIs as required. Analyse and resolve complex application, transaction, integration, and device-level issues. Perform debugging and root-cause analysis across application, middleware, and POS/device layers. Collaborate with backend teams on API design and payment transaction integration. Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices. Write unit/integration tests and support QA teams in troubleshooting and defect resolution. Use Git for source-code management and version control. Use Postman for API testing, validation, and troubleshooting. Work with Android Studio and Visual Studio for development and debugging. Contribute to technical design, architecture decisions, documentation, and development estimates. Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and provide technical guidance to the development team.

Qualifications

Required Technical Skills

POS Payment Technologies

Strong hands-on experience in POS / payment systems. Good understanding of payment transaction processing and POS transaction flows. Strong knowledge of ISO 8583 messaging and transaction processing. Experience with Terminal Management Systems (TMS). Experience working with payment terminals, POS devices, or similar embedded/payment environments. Experience with C and C++ development.

Android Development

Strong experience with Java and Kotlin. Hands-on experience with the Android SDK and Android application development. Strong understanding of MVVM architecture. Experience with: Kotlin Coroutines SQLite Retrofit Volley JSON Firebase Glide Picasso ViewModel LiveData Jetpack Compose Navigation Component Repository Pattern WorkManager

API Integration

Strong experience with REST API integration. Experience with JSON-based web services. Hands-on experience using Postman for API testing and debugging. Understanding of client-server communication and API error handling.

Development Tools Technologies

Android Studio, Visual Studio Git, Postman XML, Material Design Jetpack / Android Architecture Components

Software Engineering Skills

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Excellent debugging and troubleshooting capabilities. Ability to understand and work across application, payment, API, and device layers. Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and software design principles. Ability to write clean, maintainable, reusable, and production-quality code. Experience with the software development lifecycle, code reviews, testing, and release processes. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced product development environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronics, or a related field. 7+ years of professional software development experience. Previous experience in payment, banking, fintech, retail, POS, acquiring, or transaction-processing systems is highly desirable. Experience working with Android-based POS/payment terminals will be an advantage. Experience integrating payment, hardware, or device-specific SDKs is preferred.
