About The Role
As a Mainframe Software Engineer, you will contribute to the development, enhancement, and support of critical card management and payment processing solutions. You will design, develop, test, and maintain mainframe applications that support transaction processing, reconciliation, settlement, compliance, and modernization initiatives. Success in this role requires strong technical expertise, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, secure, and reliable solutions. You will play a key role in regulatory compliance, product enhancements, production support, and continuous improvement efforts.
What You Will Be Doing
Develop, enhance, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL and related technologiesTranslate technical and functional designs into high-quality, scalable, and maintainable codeDesign and execute comprehensive unit tests to validate application functionality and performanceIdentify, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues within defined service level expectationsCollaborate with business, product, quality assurance, and engineering teams throughout the development lifecycleConduct peer code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development standardsParticipate in technical design discussions, code walkthroughs, and solution reviewsCreate and maintain technical documentation, test evidence, and change records to support audit and compliance requirementsSupport modernization, regulatory, security, and compliance initiatives across critical payment systemsOptimize application performance, reliability, and operational stability within complex enterprise environments
Required Qualifications
Proven experience developing and supporting enterprise mainframe applicationsStrong proficiency in COBOL and Job Control Language (JCL)Hands-on experience with IMS DB/DC, CICS, VSAM, IMS, DB2, and MQ SeriesExperience using development and debugging tools such as File-Aid, InSync, Xpediter, and EndevorKnowledge of software development lifecycle practices, testing methodologies, and change management processesStrong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilitiesExcellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively across teamsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent practical experienceExperience delivering solutions in regulated, high-volume transaction processing environmentsAbility to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and delivery commitments
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with HP JCL environmentsKnowledge of Agile or Scrum delivery methodologiesExperience within card payments, debit processing, or financial services domainsExposure to payment processing, transaction management, reconciliation, or settlement systemsFamiliarity with modernization initiatives, API integration, and legacy system transformationExperience supporting compliance, security remediation, and vulnerability management programs
