The role
Manager-level Shift In Charge role at Rockwell Automation, leading shop floor sheet metal fabrication operations in CNC punching and bending. You manage shift-wise production targets and a team of operators and technicians, including CNC punching machine setup and troubleshooting, quality/rejection control, Lean manufacturing/Kaizen and 5S, and safety compliance. Required skills include sheet metal fabrication, CNC punching, bending operations, nesting, tooling selection, Amada and Prima CNC punching machines, root cause analysis, ERP (SAP), Lean manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and workforce handling for large teams. Job Description
As a Shift In Charge, you will lead shop floor operations for sheet metal fabrication, ensuring you meet production targets, quality standards, and safety practices. You will manage a team of operators and technicians, oversee CNC punching operations, and improve programmes.
You will report to Production Supervisor and will work onsite in Kancheepuram.
You will collaborate with planning, quality, and maintenance teams.
Your Responsibilities
Production ManagementManage shift-wise production activities to achieve daily targets.Ensure optimum use of workforce, machines, and materials.Coordinate with planning team for production scheduling and execution.Manpower Handling & Team ManagementManage shift workforce (operators, helpers, technicians).Allocate workforce based on production requirements, skill matrix, and priorities.Monitor operator performance, discipline, attendance, and productivity.Conduct shift briefings, tool box talks, and daily review meetings.Train operators on machine operation, quality requirements, and safety standards.Handle conflicts, absenteeism, and workforce challenges to ensure smooth operations.Maintain skill matrix and multi-skilling programmes.Technical OperationsOperate and manage CNC punching machines (Amada & Prima).Ensure machine setup, tooling, and preventive maintenance.Troubleshoot machine and process issues to minimise downtime.Ensure adherence to process parameters and drawings.Sheet Metal Fabrication ExpertiseIn-depth knowledge of:CNC punchingBending operationsNesting and material useSheet thickness and tooling selectionEnsure fabrication following technical and quality specifications.Quality AssuranceEnsure products meet quality standards and customer requirements.Coordinate with QA team for inspection and rejection control.Guide root cause analysis and corrective actions.Lean Manufacturing & 5SImplement and sustain 5S across the shop floor.Improve Lean manufacturing practices:Waste eliminationKaizenProductivity improvementMonitor and improve cycle time and efficiency.Safety & ComplianceEnforce safety practices, PPE usage, and compliance standards.Ensure safe working environment and report unsafe conditions.Conduct safety awareness sessions for team members.Main MetricsProduction target achievementManpower productivity and efficiencyMachine use and downtime reductionRejection and rework levels5S audit scoreSafety performanceTrain and skill development of workforce
The Essentials - You Will Have
B.E / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering5–8 years of experience in sheet metal fabrication / manufacturing environmentExpertise in workforce handling and shift operations managementKnowledge of production planning coordination and shopfloor execution

Well versed in sheet metal / fabrication / automotive industryWell versed with bending operations, nesting, tooling selection, and sheet thickness optimizationYou have to manage large shopfloor teams (30–60+ workforce)Exposure to ERP systems (SAP)Expertise in Lean Manufacturing, 5S implementation, Kaizen and productivity improvement programmesReduce downtime, improve machine use, and control rejection/rework
