About the role

As a Lead Legal Counsel, you will serve as a strategic partner in shaping the legal framework for Chargebee’s global operations and commercial transactions. You will provide expert guidance to internal stakeholders, ensuring contractual engagements align with international standards and support safe innovation. In this role, you will collaborate across functions to resolve complex legal challenges, bringing a proactive approach to a fast-paced, multi-cultural business environment.You will work collaboratively with Legal, Finance, Operations, Sales, IT, and Customer Success to resolve contract-related issues. You have a strong work ethic and flexibility and are comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy and ambiguity. You are a pro-active legal professional with a penchant for helping to build a business and have a strong bias for action. You feel comfortable working in a fast paced international and multi-cultural environment and enjoy working across multiple internal company disciplines. You are curious about complex technology and strive to be a highly visible key component in a rapidly expanding business that deals with some of the largest enterprises in the world.

What you'll do

Lead the end-to-end drafting, review, and negotiation of complex commercial agreements and vendor contracts.Provide expert legal counsel on data protection and privacy regulations to ensure global compliance across all business functions.Develop and implement robust risk mitigation strategies for commercial engagements.Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Finance, and Product teams to streamline contract lifecycles and approval workflows.Monitor evolving legal landscapes in the technology sector to proactively update internal policies and standard operating procedures.Manage legal documentation and maintain a central repository for all executed agreements and compliance certifications.Mentor junior legal professionals and provide guidance on complex interpretative matters of commercial law.Partnering internally to streamline agreement review and processing and providing regular detailed status reports to internal departments.What you'll bring5+ years of experience in technology and commercial law within an in-house legal department or a reputable law firm.Juris Doctor (JD) or an equivalent advanced legal degree from an accredited institution.Proven experience negotiating complex SaaS transactions and multi-jurisdictional commercial agreements.Deep understanding of global privacy frameworks, including GDPR and international data protection standards.Proven ability to translate complex legal requirements into actionable, strategic advice for non-legal stakeholders.Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and exercise independent judgment.Strong analytical skills with a decisive approach to resolving legal ambiguities and contractual disputes.Nice to haveProficiency in leveraging contract lifecycle management (CLM) platforms and AI-driven legal tools to streamline workflows.Knowledge of AI ethics frameworks and the legal implications of machine learning in software products.Familiarity with financial regulations or payment processing legal requirements.Active participation in a relevant professional legal association or bar council.
