Responsibilities:

Design and build long-lasting engineering artefacts that reduce complexity and increase developer velocity across the organisation.

Solve messy, high-impact problems at the intersection of low latency and high correctness, often without a clear starting point or obvious solution.

Foresee architectural problems or opportunities and work with leadership to address them before they impact the global marketplace.

Lead organisation-wide development and adoption of key frameworks while role-modelling coding best practices and high-quality design review.

Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Science, and Ops to translate ambiguous business requirements into production-ready technical roadmaps.

Mentor and guide other engineers, acting as a technical brand ambassador and raising the bar for excellence across the engineering organisation.

Requirements:

6+ years of professional experience in backend software engineering, data engineering, or a related technical role.

Expertise in writing high-quality code to solve strategically important problems that span multiple organisations.

Advanced proficiency in SQL and data warehousing, with a demonstrated ability to identify and reconcile architectural gaps.

Experience leading org-wide engineering projects through all lifecycle stages: inception, stakeholder engagement, implementation, and operations.

Proven track record of overseeing incident management processes and directing on-call rotations in alignment with global best practices.

Demonstrated ability to make sound engineering/business tradeoffs, considering long-term implications for the greater good of Uber.

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience building high-performance, scalable distributed systems at a 100M+ user scale.

Expertise in real-time streaming frameworks (Flink, Spark) and OLAP systems (Apache Pinot, Druid) to reduce system complexity.

Experience with Big Data/Hadoop ecosystem tools used to automate complex data orchestrations across multiple product areas.

Strong leadership traits: Experience serving as a representative for the organisation to the broader internal and external technical community.

Proven ability to get alignment and buy-in for large-scale technology transformations across multiple job functions.
