The role
A backend engineer at an online marketplace designs and develops large-scale distributed systems, database engines, and transaction management solutions, applying distributed systems and C++ to build highly available, high-concurrency software. The role also uses Kubernetes and supports production systems through architecture, testing, and rollout.
Full job description
Requirements:
Key skills: C++, Java, Python, Scala, JavaScript or any other Programming language.
Solid understanding of OOP/OOD, distributed systems, cloud-related knowledge, distributed cloud databases, Hadoop, Kubernetes.
Experience in architecting, designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, distributed software systems, storage and databases, and providing critical support
Excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures and algorithms, distributed systems, consensus algorithms, design patterns, and storage and network solutions.
Deep expertise in database internals: storage/buffer managers, write-ahead logging (WAL), multi-version concurrency control (MVCC), lock managers, query planners/executors, and database engines.
Strong transaction management background: isolation levels, concurrency control, deadlock detection, crash recovery, physical/logical replication, and HA/failover strategies.
Exceptional problem-solving abilities will be critical for success, as will be a focus on quality.
The successful candidate will have a noticeable impact on the product and is expected to participate in the design and development of a feature/benchmark/prototype/proof of concept, ranging from architecture through testing and production rollout and ongoing support of the systems in production.
Extensive hands-on experience and expertise in Object-Oriented Design, Distributed Programming, and various database systems (NoSQL and relational) at scale.
Deep understanding of distributed systems failure modes, including network partitioning, consensus algorithms (e. g., Raft/Paxos), consistency models, and strategies for maintaining "Always-Available" performance under high-concurrency loads.
