About The Team

The Local Mode team is building Git Native Postman—the bet that an API platform should live where developers already are: in the repository, on the filesystem, right next to the code. Instead of building a separate integration for every Git host, we’ve built a Git integration directly around the filesystem. Collections, specifications, environments, flows, and mocks become plain files that move through branches, pull requests, and CI like any other source code.

This foundation also makes agents genuinely useful in Postman. With filesystem, shell, and Git access, an agent can reproduce a failure, patch the code, verify the fix, and prepare the change for review.

If you’ve shipped developer tooling or desktop-class infrastructure, enjoy owning ambiguous problems end to end, and have opinions about what developer workflows should look like in the agentic era, you’ll fit in quickly.

The Role

We’re looking for a Software Engineer who is energized by complex product and engineering challenges without obvious answers. You’ll help make Postman truly Git native by building workflows that feel natural to developers while remaining secure, reliable, and performant at scale.

You’ll work at the intersection of product engineering, Git, local filesystems, desktop infrastructure, command-line tooling, synchronization, cloud services, and data systems. You’ll own problems from discovery and design through implementation, rollout, and iteration.

What You’ll Do

Own secure, performant, and scalable Git-native developer workflows across visual and command-line experiences.Build product features using JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Node.js, Electron, APIs, and databases.Design reliable synchronization that handles conflicts, concurrency, retries, interrupted operations, and partial failures without compromising user data.Solve cross-platform problems involving Git, filesystems, permissions, processes, workers, and file watching across macOS, Windows, Linux, and WSL.Improve performance for large repositories, deep file trees, data-intensive operations, application startup, and command-line execution.Strengthen reliability through automated testing, observability, diagnostics, secure defaults, and clear recovery paths.Collaborate with engineering, product, and design to prototype new developer and agentic workflows, make pragmatic trade-offs, and take successful ideas to production.

What We’re Looking For

2–4 years of software engineering experience, with a track record of building and shipping production features.Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, with hands-on experience using React and Node.js.Experience working with APIs and databases, including relational or NoSQL systems, data modeling, and secure handling of application data.A practical understanding of Git, filesystems, command-line tools, networking, operating systems, and cross-platform development.The ability to design asynchronous systems with sound approaches to concurrency, consistency, error handling, retries, cancellation, and recovery.A commitment to testable, maintainable, secure, and performant code, supported by strong computer science fundamentals.Strong ownership, product judgment, and communication skills, with the confidence to navigate ambiguity and challenge assumptions constructively.
