THE ROLE

Software Development Engineer 2 – Mobile

We’re looking for a Software Development Engineer II – Mobile to join our growing engineering team and help build high-performance mobile experiences for Quince customers. In this role, you will design, develop, and optimize React Native applications that deliver fast, reliable, and seamless experiences at scale.

You will take ownership of mobile features and technical problems, with a strong focus on performance, scalability, code quality, and user experience. You’ll work closely with Product, Design, and Backend teams to build reliable mobile solutions while contributing to the continuous improvement of Quince’s mobile applications.

This role is ideal for an engineer who is passionate about mobile development, enjoys solving React Native challenges, and cares deeply about building high-quality experiences for customers.

Responsibilities

Mobile Application Development

Design, develop, and maintain high-quality mobile applications using React Native.Build reusable, maintainable, and efficient components following modern mobile engineering best practices.Take ownership of features and modules from development through testing and production release.Work with existing libraries, frameworks, and architectural patterns to build scalable mobile solutions.Identify opportunities to improve the quality, maintainability, and performance of the mobile application.

Performance & Optimization

Improve mobile application performance across rendering, startup time, responsiveness, memory usage, and stability.Identify and resolve unnecessary re-renders and inefficient rendering patterns.Optimize large lists and complex UI interactions to deliver smooth experiences across devices.Use profiling and debugging tools to identify performance bottlenecks and implement appropriate solutions.Apply mobile performance best practices during feature development and code reviews.

React Native & Native Platform Engineering

Build and optimize mobile experiences using technologies such as FlashList, React Native Reanimated, React Native Gesture Handler, and Expo.Troubleshoot React Native issues across JavaScript and native layers.Investigate platform-specific issues across iOS and Android.Work with React Native's native capabilities and TurboModules when required.Collaborate with senior engineers when native iOS or Android code is required to address platform-specific or performance-related issues.

Quality & Reliability

Develop and maintain test cases to ensure the quality and reliability of mobile applications.Debug and resolve development and production issues in a timely manner.Contribute to improving application stability, performance, and release quality.Participate in code reviews and provide feedback on implementation quality, performance, and maintainability.Follow engineering standards for testing, documentation, and production readiness.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with Product, Design, Backend, and other engineering teams to define and implement mobile features.Translate product and customer requirements into scalable and maintainable technical solutions.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify technical dependencies and resolve implementation challenges.Communicate technical decisions, progress, and trade-offs clearly with relevant stakeholders.

Technical Contribution & Mentorship

Contribute to technical discussions and design decisions within the mobile team.Share knowledge and best practices with other engineers.Provide guidance and support to junior engineers when required.Stay current with developments in React Native, mobile platforms, and mobile performance techniques.Contribute to improving engineering practices, development workflows, and overall mobile application quality.

Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.2–4 years of professional experience in software, frontend, or mobile engineering.2+ years of hands-on experience building production applications with React Native.Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript with a solid understanding of React Native fundamentals.Good understanding of mobile application architecture, rendering, state management, and performance optimization.Hands-on experience optimizing React Native applications, including render cycles, unnecessary re-renders, memory usage, and application responsiveness.Experience troubleshooting React Native issues across the JavaScript and native layers.Experience with modern React Native libraries such as FlashList, React Native Reanimated, React Native Gesture Handler, and Expo.Proficiency with debugging tools such as Flipper, React DevTools, and Chrome DevTools.Familiarity with iOS and Android platform fundamentals.Exposure to TurboModules and native iOS/Android development is preferred.Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on performance, quality, and customer experience.Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across functions.

Preferred:

Experience building consumer-facing mobile applications.Experience with React Native performance profiling and optimization.Familiarity with the New React Native Architecture, including JSI, Fabric, and TurboModules.Experience integrating third-party native SDKs or working with native modules across iOS and Android.Experience with mobile CI/CD and automated release workflows, including tools such as Expo Application Services (EAS).Experience with mobile observability, crash reporting, performance monitoring, and analytics.Experience in e-commerce, retail, or other high-scale consumer applications.Experience mentoring junior engineers or contributing to mobile engineering standards.
