Job Description
Role Summary
Responsible for leading the development, implementation, and improvement of manufacturing test and automation solutions for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across NPI and Contract Manufacturing environments. The role requires strong hands-on experience in product testing, automated test systems, electrical troubleshooting, equipment deployment, and manufacturing validation.
Key Responsibilities
Lead manufacturing test plans, procedures, test coverage, and acceptance criteria for BESS products and subsystems.Drive development and implementation of automated End-of-Line (EOL), functional, and electrical test solutions.Define and validate test equipment, instrumentation, fixtures, DAQ systems, switching systems, communication interfaces, and test software.Develop and support test automation using LabVIEW, TestStand, Python, PLC, or equivalent platforms.Drive digital test execution, automated data collection, traceability, and report generation.Support electrical and functional testing including HiPot, Insulation Resistance, Ground Bond/Continuity, voltage/current measurement, I/O, interlocks, communication, and charge/discharge testing.Lead technical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for product, test equipment, and manufacturing failures.Read and analyze electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system architectures to resolve technical issues.Lead test equipment installation, debugging, FAT/SAT, validation, and production ramp-up at manufacturing and Contract Manufacturer locations.Participate in NPI, Design for Testability, PFMEA, Control Plan, APQP, and manufacturing readiness activities.Work closely with Product Engineering, Hardware, Software, Controls, Quality, Manufacturing, suppliers, and Contract Manufacturers.Drive continuous improvement in test coverage, cycle time, equipment reliability, yield, and manufacturing quality.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Controls, Mechatronics, or related engineering discipline.8–12 years of hands-on experience in product testing, manufacturing test, validation, test automation, or test system development.Prior product testing experience in battery systems, inverters, electric motors, electric powertrains, DC/DC converters, onboard chargers, or similar high-voltage products.Strong practical knowledge of electrical measurements, instrumentation, DAQ systems, sensors, and automated test equipment.Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, DMMs, power analyzers, power supplies, load banks, HiPot/IR testers, or similar equipment.Strong understanding of high-voltage DC systems, electrical safety, grounding, insulation, protection, and functional testing.Experience with CAN, Modbus, Ethernet, TCP/IP, or similar communication protocols.Experience with LabVIEW, TestStand, Python, PLC automation, or equivalent test development tools.Strong ability to read electrical schematics and independently troubleshoot complex electrical and communication issues.Experience with PFMEA, APQP, Control Plans, NPI, and structured problem-solving methods.Strong technical leadership, practical problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.Willingness to travel internationally to support equipment installation, validation, supplier/Contract Manufacturer activities, and production ramp-up.
