Full job description
QA Engineer
Experience: 3 - 4 years
ABOUT THE TEAMThe Core Tech team is Tricog's R&D and engineering-enablement group. We take on exploratory projects, pay down tech debt across the organisation, and build the tools and platforms that help every other engineering team move faster and better. This is not a single-product QA role. You'll work across several initiatives over the year, on codebases you didn't write, often before the spec is settled. The recurring brief is: figure out how we'd know this works.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Own quality across multiple Core Tech projects — going deep on one or two at a time, delivering, handing over cleanly, and picking up the next.- Develop and execute test cases, scripts, plans and procedures across Functional, Systems Integration, Regression, and User Acceptance testing, supporting varied development methodologies.- Design test strategy from scratch for new R&D work — decide what needs testing, what doesn't, and what "good enough to ship" means when requirements are still moving.- Design, build and execute automated tests; identify regression needs and create and maintain an Automated Regression Suite.- Validate tech-debt and refactor work - prove behaviour is preserved when internals change, frequently with little or no existing test coverage to lean on.- Work closely with stakeholders across teams to analyse end-to-end scenarios, gather requirements, and design the test cases that need to be automated.- Maintain and extend automated scripts within the existing framework, adhering to coding standards.- Run experiments — prototype new testing approaches, tools and frameworks, evaluate them honestly, and either drive adoption or discard them with a clear rationale.- Turn recurring quality pain into tooling: better test data, faster feedback loops, clearer failure signals for other teams.- Execute on schedule, raise defects with clear reproduction steps, and follow the Scrum process and ceremonies.
Must-have requirements- 3–4 years hands-on experience as a software quality professional, with automation as a core skill not purely manual execution.- Familiarity with the entire software development life cycle and all test cycles (Regression, Functional, Systems, User Acceptance).- Strong programming ability in Javascript or Python, with hands-on automation experience using Selenium, Appium or equivalent for web and mobile/desktop applications.- API testing proficiency - Postman, SoapUI, or similar.- An experimental mindset. Comfortable when there is no test plan to inherit. You form a hypothesis about how something breaks, design a way to check it, and iterate.- Ability to move across projects. You pick up an unfamiliar domain quickly, go deep enough to test it well, document it, hand it over, and switch context without dropping quality.- Initiative and ownership. A go-getter who finds the gaps and raises them. Nobody here will hand you a daily queue of test cases.- Detail-oriented, extremely responsive, and keen to take on technical challenges. Self-motivated; works well independently and with others.
