About the Role
Responsible for procurement of raw materials, packing materials, solvents and other direct materials for operations, ensuring timely availability as per planning requirements while meeting quality, cost and compliance expectations.
Responsibilities
Ensure timely procurement of raw materials, packing materials and solvents in line with production plans, inventory norms and business priorities.Manage import procurement activities, including coordination for import documentation, customs clearance, duty assessment, logistics follow-up and compliance with applicable import regulations.Ensure awareness and compliance with applicable SEZ requirements for import, domestic procurement, movement of goods, documentation, duty benefits and material accounting, wherever applicable.Handle domestic and import procurement of solvents by considering approved sources, MOQ, lead time, storage and safety requirements, hazardous material documentation, transportation requirements and statutory compliance.Track solvent availability, consumption requirements and delivery risks to avoid production impact, while coordinating with suppliers, logistics, warehouse and user departments for safe and timely receipt.Coordinate with planning, warehouse, quality, logistics and finance teams for material movement, receipt, documentation and issue resolution.Work with suppliers to address delivery delays, quantity mismatches, documentation gaps, damaged consignments, quality-related observations and other discrepancies.Identify and develop alternate vendors for critical materials in coordination with QA, QC, Regulatory, R&D and user departments, ensuring alignment with GMP norms.Support cost optimization through negotiation, vendor comparison, commercial analysis and sourcing improvements.Monitor open POs, delivery commitments, shortages and supply risks, and escalate critical issues in advance to avoid production impact.Maintain procurement records, trackers, SAP data, MIS reports and audit-supporting documents as per internal governance requirements.
Performance Indicators (KPIs)
On-time material delivery and availability at site as per production and planning timelines.Cost savings, cost avoidance and improved commercial terms achieved through negotiations.Accuracy and timeliness of SAP updates, procurement trackers, open PO reports and MIS submissions.Compliance with GMP, procurement governance, documentation and audit requirements.
Qualifications
Postgraduate (M.Sc./M.Pharm/MBA) with 5 to 8 years of relevant procurement experience in the pharmaceutical industry, preferably handling raw materials, and bulk solvents.
Required Skills
Working knowledge of SAP/MM, purchase order processing, vendor master data, procurement documentation, commercial terms, taxation, import documentation and logistics coordination.Good commercial understanding with ability to evaluate quotations, negotiate with suppliers, compare landed cost and support cost optimization initiatives.Strong interpersonal, communication and coordination skills to work effectively with suppliers and cross-functional teams including planning, warehouse, quality, logistics, finance and manufacturing.
Preferred Skills
Relevant procurement experience in the pharmaceutical industry, preferably handling raw materials, and bulk solvents.
