The Software Engineering Manager leads multiple engineering teams responsible for delivering enterprise-scale integration solutions, APIs, and dealer deployment capabilities across Caterpillar's digital ecosystem. This role combines people leadership, technical governance, delivery execution, and strategic stakeholder management to ensure secure, scalable, and high-quality software solutions aligned with business priorities and enterprise architecture standards.

The position partners closely with Product Management, Architecture, Platform Engineering, Dealer Operations, and Business stakeholders to deliver predictable outcomes while building high-performing engineering teams and fostering continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Delivery & Execution

Lead multiple software engineering teams delivering integration, platform, and dealer deployment initiatives.

Own end-to-end delivery of assigned portfolio, ensuring alignment with Program Increment (PI) objectives, sprint commitments, and release milestones.

Drive delivery predictability through planning, estimation, resource allocation, risk management, and dependency tracking.

Monitor project execution, schedule performance, and operational readiness to ensure successful deployments.

Establish and maintain delivery metrics, status reporting, and governance mechanisms.

Technical Leadership & Architecture

Provide technical direction for enterprise integration platforms, APIs, cloud-native applications, and distributed systems.

Guide engineering teams in designing scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions leveraging Azure, .NET, SQL Server, Microsoft Fabric, and integration technologies.

Ensure adherence to enterprise architecture principles, engineering standards, security requirements, and operational excellence practices.

Conduct design reviews, architecture walkthroughs, and technical assessments to ensure long-term maintainability and reuse.

Promote adoption of modern software development practices, tools, automation, and engineering innovation.

Team Leadership & Talent Development

Lead, coach, and develop Engineering Leads, Senior Engineers, and Software Engineers.

Establish performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and career development support.

Identify skill gaps and create development plans to strengthen technical and leadership capabilities.

Support hiring, onboarding, succession planning, and workforce management activities.

Foster an inclusive, collaborative, accountable, and high-performing engineering culture.

Integration Engineering & Platform Management

Oversee development and support of enterprise integration solutions across internal and external platforms.

Guide teams in API design, software integration, ETL/data movement processes, system interoperability, and cloud integration patterns.

Ensure reliable integration between dealer systems, enterprise applications, cloud services, and business platforms.

Support dealer rollout planning, deployment coordination, stabilization, and operational readiness activities.

Software Development & Quality Management

Ensure adherence to Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) standards, Agile methodologies, and engineering best practices.

Champion software quality through design reviews, testing strategies, automation, monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Establish measurable quality metrics and drive improvements in reliability, performance, and maintainability.

Support DevOps adoption, CI/CD automation, and engineering productivity improvements.

Stakeholder & Business Partnership

Serve as the primary engineering partner for Product Management, Architecture, Release Management, Business stakeholders, and external partners.

Communicate delivery plans, risks, tradeoffs, and technical decisions to leadership and governance forums.

Balance business priorities, technical debt, engineering capacity, and operational requirements.

Influence strategic technology decisions beyond direct reporting relationships.

Governance, Compliance & Operational Excellence

Ensure compliance with enterprise policies related to security, change management, risk management, and operational readiness.

Drive continuous improvement across development, deployment, support, and incident management processes.

Establish engineering standards, governance frameworks, and operational KPIs.

Promote IT Service Management (ITSM) best practices to improve service quality and operational effectiveness.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

15+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in engineering leadership or people management roles.

Proven track record leading multiple engineering teams delivering enterprise-scale software and integration solutions.

Strong experience with: Microsoft Azure .NET / C# SQL Server Azure Integration Services APIs and Integration Platforms Microsoft Fabric and Data Lake technologies

Deep understanding of software architecture, distributed systems, integration patterns, and cloud-native technologies.

Expertise across the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Agile delivery, DevOps, and release management practices.

Experience managing globally distributed teams and vendor partnerships.

Strong stakeholder management, communication, and organizational leadership skills.

Experience in large-scale B2B, dealer, supply chain, or enterprise platform environments.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Azure Integration Services (APIM, Logic Apps, Service Bus, Event Grid, Functions).

Knowledge of event-driven architecture, microservices, and enterprise integration patterns.

Experience with Microsoft Fabric, data engineering, ETL/ELT, and analytics platforms.

Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM Templates).

Experience with GitHub Enterprise, Azure DevOps, CI/CD platforms, and automated deployment frameworks.

SAFe Agile, Scrum, Azure, or Cloud certifications.

Prior experience supporting dealer ecosystems or large enterprise digital transformation initiatives.
