About Flipkart
Flipkart is India's leading e-commerce marketplace, serving 500 million+ registered customers and enabling millions of sellers, logistics partners, and brands. We are building the commerce infrastructure of India — powered by technology, data, and an unrelenting focus on the customer. Our people are the engine behind this mission.
Role ContextThe Director – HRBP for OneTech is a strategic leadership role at the intersection of people, technology, and organizational effectiveness. This leader will serve as the primary HR partner to senior Engineering and Product leadership — shaping the talent and culture agenda for the teams building Flipkart's core technology platforms. This is not a traditional HR role. It demands a strategic, execution-oriented, and data-fluent HR leader who can influence at the CXO level, navigate organizational complexity at scale, and drive people agendas that directly accelerate engineering velocity and product outcomes.
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Business PartnershipServe as a trusted thought partner to Engineering VPs, Product heads, and their leadership teams — present in business reviews, roadmap planning, and leadership forums.Translate business and technology strategy into people priorities: talent, structure, culture, and capability roadmaps aligned to 1–3 year engineering and product goals.Understand how product orgs operate — squads, platforms, roadmaps, — and bring HR interventions that map to how engineering actually works.
Organizational Design & EffectivenessLead org design across engineering and product functions: platform team structures, squad models, span of control, layer optimization, and role architecture that scales with growth.Drive workforce planning in partnership with Finance and TA — headcount modelling, skills gap analysis, and build-buy-borrow decisions across technology stacks and domains.Facilitate restructuring, team integrations (post-M&A), and transformation programs within the vertical.Talent Strategy & Leadership DevelopmentOwn the talent agenda for engineering and product: succession planning, high-potential identification, critical role coverage, and retention of senior engineers and PMs.Partner with L&D to design leadership development pathways for tech leads, senior ICs, engineering managers, and directors.Drive a differentiated EVP narrative tailored to attract senior engineering and product talent in a competitive market.Culture, Engagement & DEIChampion a high-performance, inclusive engineering culture — using engagement data to diagnose friction and design targeted interventions.Lead DEI action planning within client groups, with measurable outcomes on representation across engineering levels and product leadership.Act as a culture anchor during periods of change — leadership transitions, org restructures, M&A integration.Performance & Total RewardsAnchor the annual performance cycle for the function — calibration, differentiation, and quality of feedback, including IC vs. management tracks.Partner with Compensation to design benchmarking, off-cycle corrections, and incentive structuring for specialized roles (Staff/Principal engineers, Distinguished architects, senior PMs).Employee RelationsHandle complex ER matters within the function — investigations, disciplinary actions, and sensitive people issues — with discretion and sound judgment.Ensure HR practices comply with applicable labour laws and internal governance frameworks.People Analytics & HR Operating ModelUse workforce and engagement data to generate insights and drive evidence-based decisions — attrition risk, org health signals, span/layer diagnostics.Continuously sharpen HR operating rhythms: governance cadences, HRBP-to-business touchpoints, and HR service delivery for the function.Represent OneTech HR requirements in cross-functional CoE forums (policy design, HRIS improvements, comp frameworks).
What We're Looking ForExperience15+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 10+ years as a senior HRBP directly supporting large Engineering or Product organizations.Demonstrated success partnering with CXOs and senior technical leaders in a fast-paced, high-growth technology or e-commerce environment.Experience managing HR for organizations with significant engineering headcount (500+) and product-led business models.Prior exposure to M&A integration, org transformation, or post-restructuring stabilization in a tech context is strongly preferred.Functional CapabilitiesDeep HRBP expertise: org design, talent management, performance, compensation, ER, and culture — with specific fluency in how these apply to engineering orgs.Ability to speak the language of engineering and product: understands agile ways of working, platform thinking, IC career ladders, and tech hiring dynamics.Strong proficiency in workforce analytics and HR metrics; comfortable with data-driven storytelling to senior technical stakeholders.Working knowledge of Indian labour law and HR compliance relevant to large technology organizations.Leadership & Personal AttributesExecutive presence: capable of holding a room with senior engineering leaders, pushing back constructively, and influencing without authority.High learning agility — able to quickly absorb context across diverse technology domains and connect dots across business units.Operates with discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment.Collaborative but decisive; brings clarity and calm during periods of ambiguity and change.Resilient, self-aware, and genuinely invested in the growth of the teams they support.
Why FlipkartShape the people agenda for the engineering teams building India's commerce, payments, and supply chain infrastructure.Partner with leaders solving problems at a scale few technology organizations in India operate at.Work in an HR function with CoE depth, real data maturity, and a genuine seat at the business table.Competitive compensation, ESOP participation, and a high-velocity growth environment.A culture that values directness, intellectual curiosity, and impact over hierarchy.
