Full job description
Job Description - Sr. QA Engineer
Disney Parks, Experiences and Products is a world-class entertainment and technology leader. Walt's passion was to innovate and to push boundaries of what is possible, a passion that remains central in our business to this day. Uniting each endeavor is a commitment to creating and delivering unforgettable experiences, and we're constantly looking for new ways to enhance these exciting experiences for our guests.
Our Mission statement
- Reduce/Eliminate Guest Impacting Incidents/Outages across the Guest Experience
- Allow the product teams to focus on development and enhancement of our Products Portfolio
The Role
The Performance Engineering team within Disney Experiences is hiring a Sr. QA Engineer to apply engineering-led quality practices to high-traffic, guest- and cast-facing systems - web, mobile, dedicated appliances, and the back-end services behind them. This role focuses on system-level quality, complex testing environments, and advanced performance analysis across platforms.
You will design and execute performance tests, troubleshoot performance issues across cloud services and applications, recommend scaling parameters for production environments, support quality integration across platforms, and contribute to test planning and architectural reviews led by senior engineers. You will partner closely with development, product, and project management to size effort and deliver against go-live dates.
We're looking for someone technical, proactive, and self-directed, who communicates clearly under pressure and consistently delivers high-quality work.
Responsibilities
- Execute performance testing projects in partnership with business stakeholders - script, run, and analyze tests to deliver against go-live dates.
- Apply engineering principles to quality assurance - design and run complex, system-level tests across integrated platforms in state-of-the-art QA environments.
- Break assigned work down into executable tasks and sequence them against project objectives.
- Recommend capacity and scaling parameters for cloud services to meet demand during launches and peak events.
- Communicate test status, findings, and risks clearly to project managers and engineering leadership.
- Support less-experienced performance engineers by reviewing scripts, sharing techniques, and pairing on root-cause analysis.
- Unblock yourself where possible and escalate cleanly when you can't.
- Share your work, learnings, and wins with the broader team.
Basic Qualifications
Communication & Leadership:
- Strong written and verbal communication; able to explain technical topics clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Composed under pressure - can participate in cross-functional incidents and represent performance findings credibly to stakeholders.
- Able to guide less-experienced performance engineers through scripting, execution, and root-cause analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving instincts; able to collect and articulate forensic detail that drives root cause.
- Self-directed in executing assigned work and surfacing issues proactively.
Technical Skills:
- Expert: Performance engineering fundamentals, JMeter, code profiling, APM tools, test data management.
- Experienced: Chaos testing and fault injection, SLO/SLI definition and error-budget management, infrastructure-as-code with Terraform, AI-assisted observability and anomaly detection, agile project management, cloud infrastructure.
- Intermediate: Java fundamentals, database fundamentals, caching technologies.
- Working knowledge: Docker / containerization, serverless / Lambda.
- Experience performance testing complex service architectures, including upstream services, caches, and databases.
Required Technical Experience:
- Performance testing and analysis of large-scale, consumer- and employee-facing enterprise cloud systems.
- Proficiency with load testing tools - JMeter (required), plus LoadRunner, BlazeMeter, or equivalents.
- Deep-dive troubleshooting of application performance issues across cloud services, databases, and dependent systems, with the ability to recommend scaling parameters for production environments.
- Testing web, caching, and queuing technologies in high-traffic environments.
- Designing and running tests against highly scalable, highly available systems.
- Hands-on experience with at least one major public cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Chaos testing tools such as AWS Fault Injection Simulator or Gremlin.
- Working knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Technical depth is expected, but coding automated test software is not the defining boundary of this role - emphasis is on performance engineering, analysis, and system-level quality.
Preferred Technical Qualifications:
- Languages & Scripting: Java, Flutter, Angular; JMeter scripting in Groovy.
- Performance Engineering Tools: JMeter (primary load testing platform).
- Logging / Monitoring / Profiling: CloudWatch, Splunk, AppDynamics, Grafana, New Relic, Dynatrace, Wily, JConsole, GC Analyzer.
- Chaos Testing: AWS Fault Injection Simulator, Gremlin.
- Cloud - AWS: Fargate, ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, EC2, S3, ALB/ELB, ElastiCache, VPC, IAM, EKS.
- Cloud - GCP: App Engine, Kubernetes (Helm), Cloud Functions, Firebase, IAM.
- Cloud - Other: Azure, Salesforce Platform.
- Containerization: Docker, Kubernetes.
- Caching: Redis, ElastiCache.
- Message Queueing: RabbitMQ.
- Databases: MariaDB, MongoDB, MySQL, Oracle, AWS Aurora.
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree, or 6+ years of equivalent experience in performance engineering at enterprise scale.
