As Director of Technology for Legal, Risk, Compliance, Digital Trust, Safe & Secure, you will lead a complex and evolving portfolio of technology products that help protect Target, our team, and the trust of our guests. This is an opportunity to shape the next generation of technology across these critical enterprise capabilities—applying AI- native and agentic approaches where they create meaningful value, while selecting the right technology and architecture for each problem.

You will lead engineering teams, technology platforms, and external technology

partners to build secure, resilient, intelligent, and scalable solutions. Your portfolio will span custom-built products, AI-enabled capabilities, cloud platforms, and third-party SaaS solutions.

You will drive strategic initiatives, identify and adopt emerging technology practices, build a strong product culture and ways of working, and foster a high-performing team environment. This role requires close collaboration with teams across the enterprise, especially in Legal, Risk, Ethics, and Enterprise Security.

You will operate in areas where trust, security, privacy, compliance, and responsible technology practices matter deeply. You will help teams innovate quickly while applying the engineering rigor and controls appropriate to the risk and criticality of each product.

Using your skills and expertise, you’ll lead your teams toward innovative solutions and visionary objectives. As the Director of Technology, you will advocate and articulate

Target’s technology vision, create enduring products that align with business outcomes. You’ll drive change, support critical business priorities, and foster a culture emphasizing agility, continuous improvement, rapid innovation, and calculated risk-taking. Talent acquisition, development, and retention will be central to your role. You will build a diverse, high-performing team and champion a culture of collaboration, care, growth, and inclusion.

This role reports directly to the VP Engineering, Finance Tech, HR Tech, Legal &

Compliance, Safe & Secure.

About You

Four-year degree or equivalent experience 15+ years of related experience, including 5+ years in software engineering and 5+ years in leadership roles Demonstrated experience leading AI-native technology strategies and delivering AI- enabled products into production, including experience evaluating where generative AI, agentic AI, machine learning, automation, or traditional engineering approaches are most appropriate. Strong business acumen with the ability to align technical strategies with overall

business objectives

Strong understanding of responsible AI engineering practices, including security,

privacy, data governance, model risk, observability, human oversight, and controls

appropriate for enterprise-scale AI solutions.

Proven ability to communicate complex technical solutions effectively to non-

technical stakeholders

Significant experience leading third-party technology ecosystems, including

evaluating SaaS and emerging technology providers, influencing supplier roadmaps,

managing technical relationships and performance, and making effective

build/buy/partner decisions.

Experience in building and leading Agile teams that adopt modern CI/CD practices Experience managing global teams Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of effectively engaging senior leadership
