About The Role

We're looking for a Community Manager to build and scale a thriving tech community around Masai.

You'll own the community experience end-to-end — from attracting the right members and creating meaningful conversations to running high-impact events, building partnerships, and turning community insights into action.

This is a hands-on, high-ownership role for someone who understands how tech communities work, knows how to create engagement beyond vanity metrics, and enjoys bringing developers, students, founders, and industry professionals together.

If you enjoy building communities from the ground up, creating experiences people genuinely want to participate in, and turning members into long-term advocates, this role is for you.

What You'll Do

Build & Grow the CommunityBuild and manage tech and developer communities across platforms such as Discord, Slack, LinkedIn, and other relevant channels.Develop strategies to attract high-quality members and continuously improve member acquisition and retention.Create an active community culture through discussions, peer-to-peer interactions, challenges, AMAs, and other engagement initiatives.Identify community champions and turn highly engaged members into long-term advocates. Own Events & Community ProgramsPlan and execute engaging online and offline events, including hackathons, workshops, webinars, meetups, AMAs, and networking sessions.Build recurring community programs that create consistent value and participation.Own the end-to-end execution — planning, speakers, partnerships, promotion, registrations, engagement, and post-event follow-ups.Experiment with new formats to continuously improve participation and member experience. Content & Community CommunicationCreate newsletters, community updates, social posts, event content, and other communication that keeps members informed and engaged.Develop content that sparks conversations rather than simply broadcasting information.Act as the voice of the community internally and ensure member feedback reaches the right teams.Identify emerging conversations, trends, and community needs and turn them into content or programs. Partnerships & Community GrowthBuild relationships with universities, student communities, startups, developer groups, tech companies, creators, and industry leaders.Develop ambassador, referral, and campus/community partner programs to accelerate growth.Collaborate with marketing, product, partnerships, and other teams to create mutually beneficial community initiatives.Represent Masai at relevant tech and startup events and build a strong external community presence. Measure, Learn & ImproveDefine and track community metrics such as member growth, engagement, activation, retention, event participation, referrals, and ambassador performance.Use data and member feedback to understand what is working and what isn't.Regularly report community performance and translate insights into actionable improvements.Build experiments, measure outcomes, and continuously improve the community strategy.

What We're Looking For

0–4 years of experience in community management, developer relations, community growth, or a similar role, preferably in a tech, startup, education, or developer-focused environment.Strong understanding of developer ecosystems, startup culture, and technology communities.Proven experience in building, growing, or managing an online community.Experience planning and executing events, meetups, workshops, hackathons, webinars, or community programs.Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt communication for different audiences.Hands-on experience with platforms such as Discord, Slack, Circle, Reddit, LinkedIn, or similar community platforms.Ability to work cross-functionally with marketing, product, partnerships, content, and business teams.Strong ownership and execution skills — you should be comfortable taking an idea from “this could work” to actually making it happen.Data-driven mindset with the ability to understand community metrics and use insights to improve strategy.Empathetic, curious, proactive, and genuinely interested in building meaningful communities.

Nice to Have

Experience in Developer Relations (DevRel) or developer advocacy.Experience managing open-source communities or developer-focused programs.Experience building ambassador, campus, referral, or creator programs.Familiarity with tools such as Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Orbit, HubSpot, or community analytics platforms.Experience creating content for LinkedIn, newsletters, blogs, YouTube, or other social platforms.Existing network across developer, startup, university, or tech communities.Experience working in an early-stage startup or fast-paced environment.

What Success Looks Like

In this role, success isn't just about having a large community. It's about building a high-quality, active, and valuable community.

You’ll Be Successful If You Can

Grow the community with the right members, not just more members.Increase meaningful member-to-member engagement.Build events and programs that people actively want to attend.Develop strong partnerships that contribute to community growth.Turn active members into ambassadors and advocates.Use community data and feedback to continuously improve the experience.Build a community that strengthens Masai's presence and credibility in the tech ecosystem.
