The role
A commodity manager role for strategic procurement at a rail mobility (Siemens Mobility) company in Bangalore, driving global procurement strategies for metallics while supporting supplier localization and cost competitiveness. You’ll handle supplier management and development, run RFQs, price benchmarking, commercial evaluations, negotiations and contracting, and use e-auctions and RFQs for transparent sourcing. Requirements include a degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Business Administration; several years of strategic procurement experience; knowledge of metallic components (steel structures, car body parts); ability to interpret technical drawings; supplier negotiations and contract management; business-fluent English (German a strong advantage). This position is based in Bangalore and may require visits to other locations within India and outside.

We are looking for Commodity Manager - Strategic Procurement for Metallics
As a Commodity Manager, you will act as a key liaison between Rolling Stock Procurement HQ in Germany and the regional procurement team in Bangalore, India. You will drive global procurement strategies while strengthening local supplier integration to support localization and cost competitiveness.

Strategy Execution & LocalizationImplement global procurement strategies within the Indian marketIdentify and onboard capable local suppliers to support localization initiativesSupplier Management & DevelopmentEvaluate, develop, and qualify suppliers under the “local for global” approachCollaborate with cross-functions (Engineering, Production, Quality) to enhance supplier capabilitySourcing & Cost OptimizationAnalyze demand for metallic/direct production materialsConduct RFQs, price benchmarking, and commercial evaluationsPrepare sourcing recommendations aligned with HQ stakeholdersNegotiation & ContractingLead commercial negotiations (pricing, terms, conditions) using both collaborative and competitive approachesDigital Procurement & TransparencyUtilize e-sourcing tools (e-auctions, RFQs) to ensure transparent and competitive sourcingProductivity & Continuous ImprovementDrive cost reduction and productivity initiatives with internal teams and suppliersEscalation ManagementAct as first escalation point for supplier performance issues impacting logistics or operations
Desired Skills:
Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Business AdministrationSeveral years of experience in strategic procurement, preferably in manufacturing or rolling stockStrong knowledge of metallic components (steel structures, car body parts)Ability to interpret technical drawings and understand manufacturing processesProven experience in supplier negotiations and contract managementBusiness-fluent English required; German is a strong advantageAbility to work effectively in a global, cross-cultural environmentStructured, analytical, and results-driven mindsetStrong stakeholder management and communication skillsProactive, innovative, and open-minded approach
