The Role

The MTS Software System Design Engineer will serve as a leader within the Release and Test Engineering Organization with strong foundation of AI and Test automation leveraging AI. This role will need to have a holistic view of development and validation workflows for systems products, strong background towards automation of CLI/UI test cases, have good understanding of CLI and UI automation tools/frameworks and augment test automation by being hands-on. This will need the person to define optimal risk-based test strategies, build AI assisted scalable automation and implement/support automation of complex system-level debugging and contribute to improving release quality and engineering efficiency. This role will collaborate with system architecture, firmware, BIOS, drivers, development, validation, and product engineering teams. This role can involve leading a small team of test case development/automation engineers.

The Person

The ideal candidate would be self-directed, quality-focused, and hands-on technical leader with deep expertise in software validation, test architecture, automation, debugging, and quality engineering. The candidate should have a strong understanding of H/W platform architectures and platform-software interactions preferably with AMD platform architectures. He should have experience in translating product requirements into comprehensive validation coverage, and using AI for generation and improvement of tests, failure triage, defect prediction, and QA productivity.

Key Responsibilities

Complement and work with functional owners to drive defined QA test strategy through the test work flow for new AMD platform and system-software features.

Review requirements and technical designs, identify quality risks and testability gaps, and define measurable entry, exit, coverage, and release-quality criteria.

Leverage various test frameworks, automation frameworks and reporting frameworks for generating/automating functional, regression, integration, compatibility, stability, performance, power, and end-to-end validation of different products.

Write production-quality test automation using Python or equivalent languages and integrate continuous validation into CI/CD pipelines.

Plan, Generate, Review and execute test cases for coverage across representative hardware, operating systems, firmware, BIOS, drivers, applications, workloads, and system configurations.

Support defect discovery, reproduction, prioritization, regression-point identification, root-cause isolation, and closure of complex system-level issues across different products with AMD product architectures.

Support automation of analysis of test results, logs, telemetry, defect pattern identification, and quality metrics for identifying systemic risks, coverage gaps, and recommending corrective or preventive actions.

Leverage, Automate and Develop practical AI-assisted solutions for test generation, test prioritization, anomaly detection, failure clustering, log summarization, defect prediction, and automated triage.

Partner with development and cross-functional teams to improve design-for-testability, establish quality gates, communicate risks, and drive issues to closure before release.

Mentor QA engineers and champion test engineering standards towards automation and continuous improvement in coverage and defect containment.

Required Experience

10+ years of relevant industry experience in system validation, test strategy and design, test automation and defect management/release qualification.

Advanced proficiency in Python and working knowledge of C or C++, with experience developing maintainable test automation, utilities, APIs, data pipelines, and validation tools.

Proven experience building reusable automation frameworks and integrating automated functional, regression, integration, stability, and performance tests into CI/CD pipelines.

A good understanding of System architecture and platform components, including CPU, GPU, NPU (preferably AMD) and their hardware-software interactions is desirable.

Experience validating complex system software across Windows or Linux environments and representative hardware, firmware, driver, and application configurations.

Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Working knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning, generative AI, and large language models, with experience applying AI to test automation, analytics, or failure triage.

Experience with Git, CI/CD, defect tracking, test management, quality metrics, dashboards, requirements traceability, code reviews, and technical documentation.

Excellent analytical, risk-assessment, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, planning, mentoring, and technical leadership skills.

Hands-on experience/familiarity in the above is a must requirement

Experience of leading a small team in the above space would be a positive differentiator

Academic Credentials

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
